Travel Information

Entry Requirements – Visas, Visa Waiver Program, and ESTA

All international attendees must have a valid passport. We would like to advise all participants, who may be required to apply for a visa, that the application process requires time and may take up to a few months. Please visit the U.S. Department of State website for full visa acquisition information — http://www.travel.state.gov/.

Non-immigrant visa application processing fees are currently $160.00 USD.

The Visa Waiver Program (VWP), administered by the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) in consultation with the State Department, permits citizens of 38 countries to travel to the United States for business or tourism for stays of up to 90 days without a visa. However, participants under the VWP countries will still have to obtain an approved travel authorization prior to their travel to the U.S. (see ESTA information below)

IMPORTANT NOTICE!

Travelers in the following categories are no longer eligible to travel or be admitted to the United States under the Visa Waiver Program (VWP):

  • Nationals of VWP countries who have traveled to or been present in Iran, Iraq, Sudan, or Syria on or after March 1, 2011 (with limited exceptions for travel for diplomatic or military purposes in the service of a VWP country).
  • Nationals of VWP countries who are also nationals of Iran, Iraq, Sudan, or Syria.

In addition, as of April 1, 2016, you must have an e-passport to use the VWP.

ESTA is an automated system that determines the eligibility of visitors to travel to the United States under the Visa Waiver Program (VWP). Authorization via ESTA does not determine whether a traveler is admissible to the United States. U.S. Customs and Border Protection officers determine admissibility upon travelers’ arrival. The ESTA application collects biographic information and answers to VWP eligibility questions. ESTA applications may be submitted at any time prior to travel, though it is recommended that travelers apply as soon as they begin preparing travel plans or prior to purchasing airline tickets.

Invitation Letters

Persons who complete a registration and submit payment will be able to request an official invitation letter on workshop letterhead. The letter will be a PDF file delivered by email upon request per the instructions shown in the registration confirmation email. There is no additional cost for the emailed invitation letter.

Travel to San Francisco

There are two airports around San Francisco area:

The distance from SFO and OAK to the conference site is approximately, 15 and 20 miles, respectively. Taxis are easy to get at the airport and around the city. It is standard to tip to the driver 15% of the fare.

Transportation from San Francisco Airport to Workshop Venue

By Car

Follow signs for Hwy US-101N, and enter US-101N. Use right two lanes for going to downtown SF direction exit 430. Enter I-280N and follow signs for King St and Embarcadero. Turn left on Folsom St and turn left on Spear St. The google building will be on the left.

By Public Transportation

BART

Bay Area Rapid Transit (BART) system serves to the San Francisco Bay Area. One way trip to the conference site costs $8.65 and $10.20 from SFO and OAK, respectively.

Local Transportation
